Pet Mobility Award

Where global mobility
meets real life

Global mobility is about people.
And very often, it is also about the pets who move with them.

The Pet Mobility Award is a People Mobility Alliance initiative that brings a human perspective to cross-border life. It celebrates shared journeys, adjustment, and the everyday realities that sit behind international moves.

Relocation is rarely a solo experience.
Pets travel with their people, adapt to new
environments, and become anchors of
familiarity in unfamiliar places.

They experience new routines, new spaces, and new rhythms.
Their presence often shapes how people settle, feel safe, and
create a sense of home abroad.

By focusing on pets, the Pet Mobility Award highlights the lived
reality of mobility — beyond policies, roles, and structures.

The Idea Behind the Award

The Pet Mobility Award was created by the founders
of People Mobility Alliance as a way to connect the
global mobility community through shared experience.

Daniel Zinner, co-founder of People Mobility
Alliance, has long worked on placing the human side
of mobility at the centre of professional discussions.

Together with PMA co-founder Mira Pathak, the idea
emerged to create a format that feels approachable,
personal, and relatable — while still reflecting the
core values of the global mobility profession.

Mira Pathak and Minnie and Wendy

Mira adopted her two cats, Minnie and Wendy, from
a shelter in the UK. They already had their names,
which she chose to keep. In 2019, both cats
relocated with her to Germany.

As flying was not an option at the time, Mira worked
with a pet shipping company that transported them
by car. The vehicle was set up specifically for cats,
with food, water, litter, and sleeping space provided
throughout the journey.

Their move adds another real-life perspective on pet
mobility and the planning, care, and responsibility
that often come with international relocation.

Daniel Zinner and Mila

Mila’s cross-border journey reflects many of the
challenges seen in international mobility.
Change, adaptation, and the need for patience.

Her story helped shape the idea that mobility is not
only about movement, but also about emotional
adjustment and finding stability in new surroundings.
